Evaluations your team can act on
When a teacher notices a student struggling with attention or reading, families often don’t know where to start. Kalamazoo ADHD Consultants evaluates children and adolescents for ADHD, dyslexia and other learning disorders, autism, and the anxiety and mood concerns that get in the way of learning. With a parent’s written consent, we share findings and classroom recommendations written for teachers.
What we evaluate
- ADHD
- Dyslexia and other specific learning disorders in reading, writing, and math
- Autism spectrum disorder
- Anxiety and mood concerns that affect school performance
- Gifted students with attention concerns
How a referral works
- A teacher or counselor suggests an evaluation and shares our information with the family.
- The family contacts our office, and we complete an intake with the parent.
- We gather report cards, prior evaluations, and any IEP or 504 documents, along with teacher rating forms.
- The student completes testing, usually in one or two sessions.
- We meet with the family to review results and recommendations.
- With the parent’s written consent, we send the school a summary of findings and classroom recommendations.
Private evaluation or district evaluation?
Public school districts can evaluate students for special education at no cost to families, and that can include students enrolled in private schools. A private evaluation is another option when a family wants a diagnosis or wants attention and learning looked at together in one evaluation. We’re happy to talk with families about which path fits their child.
Free faculty in-services
We offer a free 45-minute in-service for faculty and staff. Topics include ADHD in the classroom and early signs of dyslexia, and we can tailor either one to your school. Use the form on this page to request a date.
